The latest Call of Duty has erupted the gaming industry by storm. With it’s ground breaking new engine and prequel story line to one of the most know First-Person-Shooters of all time, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has re-established itself as the leader of the gaming shooter world. By launching its free-to-play Battle Royale mode called Warzone, Modern Warfare has taken the pinnacle top of games in the Battle Royale gaming genre as well. With over 60 million players worldwide, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is becoming one the played games of the year.
With a name like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it would be easy to assume that the guns and other weapons in the game represent real life firearms and somewhat similar realistic performance. A majority of the weapons in the game resemble real world weapons but maybe named differently. We have low down on all the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare weapons and the real history behind them. Take a look.
The real gun name of the KILO 141 is the HK 433. This assault rifle from HK (Heckler & Koch) is a brand new modular rifle for the next generation. If you know anything about HK, you will know that have a very long record of very successful assault and battles rifles. The HK G36 and the HK 416 have been both very successful 5.56x45mm caliber assault rifles for HK respectfully. While each of those weapons platforms have their pros and cons, the HK 433 was designed to take the best features of both of those weapon platforms and combine them into one. This way, you get the best from what the HK assault rifles provide.
The HK 433 is chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO with a 30 round magazine as most standard NATO STANAG assault rifles. One of the features the HK 433 has is the ambidextrous central mag release as the HK G36 has. The bolt release is also ambidextrous so any hand can tactically use any one of these features effectively. With other unique features like a stock that can fold, adjust in or out, and adjust the chin rest height all without modifications, the HK 433 will be a formidable contender in the military assault rifle genre.
This is also a brand new gun for the Call of Duty world. It is the first assault rifle you can choose from in the assault rifle weapon list in multiplayer. It is very balanced and compares with one of Call of Duty’s most favorite – the M4A1. The attachments for the KILO 141 make this weapon seem even more futuristic looking. This new assault rifle is a great choice for new players of the Modern Warfare franchise.
Larry Vickers from Vickers Tactical checks out the HK 433 for his first time at the HK booth during Shot Show 2018. Larry is with Bjoern for HK Oberndorf in Germany presenting the new features the HK 433 has to offer for the assault rifle community. See what the HK 433 has to offer in live action.
The real gun name of the FAL is the is still the FAL. The arms company Fabrique Nationale is responsible for manufacturing the FAL since the early 1950s. The designer of the FAL, Dieudonné Saive, is French so it stands for Fusil Automatique Léger which is translated simple to Light Automatic Rifle in English. It has stopped production in the late 1980s but has made a staple in the arms community during its usage in the Cold War by many militaries around the world. Due to this, the FN FAL has been deemed the “The right arm of the Free World”. Due to the higher caliber cartridge, the FN FAL has also been recognized as one of the “most successful battle rifles of all time”.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare categorizes the FAL as an assault rifle but, actually, the FAL is a battle rifle. The FN FAL is chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO and usually loaded with a standard 20 round magazine. Unlike what the game signifies, the FN FAL can actually be set to fire in a fully automatic fire mode. The FN FAL has been used by some 90+ different countries in various different conflicts since the 1950s. Since production has stopped, the FN FAL has been somewhat of a collectors item for gun enthusiasts and collectors.
The FAL in game is a semi auto rifle. It is categorized as an assault rifle but it’s the only assault rifle that acts as a designated marksman rifle. Using a semi-auto rifle instead of a fully-automatic rifle is quite a change in gameplay. You can upgrade the FAL to suport a 3 round burst but there is no fully-auto mode.
Larry Vickers presents the FN FAL with his special “Inside” series. This time it is the FAL. This awesome series of videos showcase the inner workings of the FN FAL at every angle and in slow motion so you can see how everything works when the FN FAL is fired. Enjoy.
The real gun name of the M4A1 is the is still the M4A1. The name has not changed. The standard game version is a highly modified version of the M4A1. It’s actually a shorter barreled version of the M4A1 with a Rail Interface System (RIS) to support attachments specifically for Special Operations soldiers. The magazine is a modern Magpul Windowed PMAG to show how many rounds are left. Also, the color of the magazine, rail cover, pistol grip, stock, and sights are all in the Flat Dark Earth (FDE) color instead of straight black.
The M4A1 is a descendant of the M16. The M16 is not available in-game out of the box but you can reconfigure the M4A1 to look and fire like most M16 versions once you unlock the attachments necessary. Unlike the more modern versions of the M16, the M4A1 was designed to shoot semi-auto and fully-auto. Burst fire is a standard fire mode on the M16 but it can be unlocked and used if desired. As the M16 did, the M4A1 is also chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO with a 30 round magazine setting the standard for NATO STANAG assault rifles.
The M4A1 in Call of Duty has had a long history. It is a very well rounded with a high fire rate. It has been the pinnacle rifle for beginners and veterans. You can make your M4A1 loadout look more like special operations with all the attachments you can unlock.
Learn the history of the M4. Being a descendant of the M16, the M4 has a number of it’s own prototypes and variants. The M4’s purpose was primarily to arm military personnel other than the standard soldier. These military personnel are usually in tight quarters where a small rifle or firearm could be needed without reducing firepower. See more here.
The real gun name of the FR 5.56 is the is still the FAMAS. The default version of the F1 variant. The FAMAS is the standard service rifle for the French. It is a bullpup assault rifle chambered once again for NATO standards – 5.56x45mm. The F1 version was issued with a standard 25 round straight magazine. The G2 upgraded version has a curved magazine that supports 30 rounds as most other NATO assault rifles do.
The iconic thing about the FAMAS is the very high fire rate. It has a fire rate of about 1000 rpm. Since the fire rate is so high in real life, Modern Warfare limits the fire mode to burst fire only for balance. In 2017, France announced that the FAMAS was being replaced by the HK 416 as the standard service rifle.
The FR 5.56 looks a bit bulky in game due to the long upper hand-guard. This hand-guard also fits the sights which can support a rail and additional attachments for the rail which unfortunately will make the FR 5.56 look even more bulky. Due to the rate of fire, the default 3-round burst on it is a formidable opponent. The burst fire can be a “one tap” shot on most targets if you are accurate enough to land all three bullets on your target.
Larry Vickers from Vickers Tactical goes over the FAMAS and its unusual design and functionality. He mentions why you shouldn’t downplay French made guns like the FAMAS. The uniqueness of the FAMAS makes it a very formidable assault rifle.
The real gun name of the Oden is the is the ASh-12.7. This Russian bullpup heavy caliber battle rifle is fairly new to the firearms community. Being chambered in 12.7x55mm STs-130, this very high caliber battle rifle is used for heavy stopping power at closer ranges. The ASh-12.7 surprisingly has two modes of fire – semi and auto. It is very unusual to have a fully-auto firing mode with a firing caliber of this size. Granted, the rate is fire is between 500-700 rpm but with this size of ammunition, it is rare for an assault rifle or battle rifle to go full auto.
The ShAK-12 is the latest military version of the ASh-12.7. It is designed with additional features for various bullet types depending on mission circumstances. This version was specifically designed to have a high stopping power with limited penetration and a short ‘dangerous range’, to avoid collateral damage to innocent bystanders or hostages in CQB operations.
The Oden in game is a decently massive gun kinda like the FAMAS but with a less of the hand-guard. It feels more beefy also when you start firing. The fire rate is less than most fully autos in the game but, the kick because of the heavier caliber comes into play. Some people think this new gun is awesome. Some think it is the worst gun in the game. Try it for yourself.
It’s pretty amazing to see guns like this in action. The manufacturing of a heavy caliber fully-automatic battle rifle and how it is able to fire as effectively as it is can be quite mind boggling. The ASh-12.7 is no exception. Take a look on how this Russian monster gun fires today.
The real gun name of the M13 is the SIG MCX. The is one of the latest rifles from the German gun manufacturer SIG Sauer. What makes the SIG MCX stand out from other assault rifles are the fluid features that make the SIG MCX very easy to use. The SIG MCX is a gas pistol operated system unlike the AR-15 platform. May say gas piston rifles are more efficient and last longer. The way the SIG MCX has been built, shooters have noticed the rifle is light, accurate, dependable, and low on recoil.
The SIG MCX is chambered as a standard NATO assault rifle firing 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition with a custom transparent magazine but also supports standard STANAG magazines. The SIG MCX also comes in various models including a pistol, short-barreled, and longer barreled patrol versions. The fully automatic fire rate of the SIG MCX is also slightly higher at 900 rpm.
The M13 in game is a fast shooting but very accurate assault rifle. Some people have nicknamed it the “laser” due to it’s very fast fire rate and accuracy while in full-auto. It is balanced out with a lower damage output. If you love accurate high fire guns in your arsenal, check out the M13. It is a solid alternative to the Kilo 141 and the M4A1.
My man Garand Thumb tests out the SIG MCX and goes through a complex overview from “tip to butt” of the various features the SIG MCX has for its shooters. If you wanted to know everything about the SIG MCX, Garand Thumb goes over just about everything you would need to know in case you were looking for a SIG MCX for yourself.
The real gun name of the FN SCAR 17 is the is the FN SCAR 17. Modern Warfare kept the name of the real gun intact. The FN SCAR 17 stands for the Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle. USSOCOM issued a weapon competition to suit the all the unique needs of the special operations units. A requirement for the competition was for the platform to be chambered in both NATO calibers of 5.56x45mm and 7.62x51mm respectively. The FN SCAR platform won the competition.
The SCAR comes in two versions to fit the chamber needs. The FN SCAR-L (MK 16) is the version chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO – the assault rifle variant. The FN SCAR-H (MK 17) is the version chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO – the battle rifle variant. The game uses the MK 17 battle rifle version since the MK16 version is discontinued.
We have made a tutorial on How to Shoot an FN SCAR 17. Also, for more history on the FN SCAR platform, feel free to check our database on the FN SCAR.
As mentioned before, the is the Heavy version of the SCAR so it is chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO. So the SCAR hits hard – really hard. So a couple of shots and your target is usually out for the count BUT, the SCAR does have quite of a kick. It’s really good in close quarters and pretty decent in long range due to the heavier caliber.
Hickok45 goes into great detail in his SCAR 17 revisited video. Take a look and learn about how the SCAR fires, is disassembled, and some history. Hit the gong with Hickok45 and check out the video.
The real gun name of the AK47 is the is the AK47. Modern Warfare kept this name of the real gun intact also. The AK47 is used all across the globe. Many poorer nations use this gun as their standard military rifle because it is cheap yet reliable. It is the world’s most popular and used assault rifle – period. No modern shooter is complete without an AK – this one or a variant of the AK.
Related: Complete history of the AK47
AK stands for Avtomat Kalashnikova in Russian or Automatic Kalashnikov in English. The very first official version being produced in 1947, the AK47 and its variants have made waves ever since. The original is chambered in the beefy 7.62x39mm Soviet with a standard 30 round magazine. With upgrades and modifications, Modern Warfare lets you make many different versions of the AK since its inception including the AKM, AK74, and the AKS74U.
If you have used an AK47 in any other game including previous Call of Dutys, you will know that the AK47 packs a punch at a lower fire rate than most other assault rifles. One of the best things about the AK47 is the amount AK47s that are available in Single Player and the high round magazine at default. Sure, you will have to learn how to taper the recoil but, once you get the hang of it, you can put down targets easily from just about any distance.
Larry Vickers from Vickers Tactical show just how an AK47 functions by showing you how an AK47 cycles its shots. The AK47 is a gas operated rotating bolt and by slowing down the operation, you get a good look on how exactly each part operates within the gun.
The real gun name of the RAM-7 is the is the IWI Tavor (TAR-21). This fancy futuristic bullpup rifle was developed by the Israelites at Israel Military Industries. It’s one of the more modern day bullpup rifles on the market today. The IWI Tavor is becoming a favorite among gun enthusiasts because of the updated fixes with features most shooters complain about with bullpup guns. Almost everything is ambidextrous including the select fire, magazine release, and bolt release. You can also change the sides of the charging handle and the casing ejector. This is every convenient for left and right handed shooters.
The IWI Tavor uses standard AR-15/M16/STANAG magazines so no need to buy special magazines. This also means it is chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. It can be fitted to fire 9mm with a conversion kit. The IWI Tavor also fires at a fire rate of around 800 rpm so it is on par with the likes of the M4A1.
Due to the RAM-7 being a bullpup rifle, the mobility out the gate with this weapon is top notch. The accuracy takes a hit though due to the lightweight nature of the bullpup design. It makes a great CQB weapon performing a bit better than an M4A1 in this scenario.
Larry Vickers from Vickers Tactical tells us why he would take this gun for self-defense. The features on the IWI Tavor make it a premier weapon for just about all circumstances in a home defense situation.
The real gun name of the GRAU 5.56 is the is the SIG SG 552. Before there was the SIG MCX, there was the SIG SG 550 series of rifles. The SIG SG 552 is a part of the SIG SG 550 Series of rifles produced by SIG Sauer back in the 1990s. The SIG SG 552 is the shortest of the line making it the “Commando” version of the series. The SIG SG 551 is the mid sized rifle and the SIG SG 550 is the longest rifle in the series, respectively.
The SIG SG 550 Series rifles are primarily chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO and come standard with a 30 round magazine. They have their unique transparent magazine but can also take STANAG magazines as well. In terms of manufacturing and functionality, many shooters have described this series of rifles as a combination of an AK47 and an M16 (AR15). The SIG SG 553 is a slightly upgraded version of the SIG SG 552.
To be honest, I think this gun out performs the M13 even though the M13 is technically the newer gun in the game. Rate fire is still high. Accuracy is still on par. I believe the damage is slightly higher than a M13. Since this is a “Commando”, mobility is better as well. Make sure to unlock this gun and see for yourself.
It is amazing to see real firearms in action. You don’t really know how great a gun is until you see it at optimal performance. Check out this video where these guys shoot the SIG SG 552 in full-auto. Don’t miss it!
